Judaism in Historical and Contemporary Practice

Instructor: Dr. Rachel Furst

How do traditional Jews celebrate Shabbat and other holidays? Why do Orthodox synagogues separate men and women? What does it mean to “keep kosher”? This course will survey a range of Jewish practices and the ways they have evolved from ancient to modern times. Designed for students of Jewish history and related topics, the course will provide insight into Jewish life throughout the ages, with a particular focus on the dynamics of religious theory and practice. If possible in accordance with current public health regulations, we will take two field trips to local Jewish institutions.

Time: Do. 11:00-13:00 c.t.
Location: This course will be held online, via Zoom.
