Judaism in Historical and Contemporary Practice

SoSe 2018 – Übung 09085

How do traditional Jews celebrate Shabbat and other holidays? What does it mean to “keep kosher”? Why do Orthodox synagogues separate men and women? This course will survey a range of Jewish practices and the ways they have evolved from ancient to modern times. Designed for students of Jewish history and related topics, the course will provide insight into Jewish life throughout the ages, with a particular focus on the dynamics of religious theory and practice. In addition to classroom discussions, we will take two field trips to local Jewish institutions.
