"From the Book of Genesis to the Six day war - Israel's Identity between
Old and New Myths", Übung (Blockseminar) vom 02.-06.06.2025 und 11.-13.06.2025.
Israelis' identity as individuals, and also their collective identity, is rooted in old and new myths. Those narratives and myths kept Jewish identity during thousands of years and influenced very much the creation of modern Israel. We will deal with stories from the Old Testament and from other Jewish scriptures. We shall examine how old and forgotten myths were revived in modern times in order to achieve militaristic, social and political purposes. We shall also discuss modern narratives and myths of Israel, as portrayed in the arts and literature. The seminar will provide the participants with a deep understanding of Israel's soul through those symbols.
