Seminar: Motherhood in Contemporary Arabic and Hebrew Literature and History
This course sheds light on the contemporary experiences of motherhood in the Middle East, focusing on Arabic and Hebrew artistic representations. The course will examine novels, theoretical essays, and films that bring the figure of mothers to the forefront. Throughout the course, we will explore the alignments between Arab and Jewish experiences of motherhood and discuss matters such as multiple mother-tongues, shared cultural belongings, and the active roles mothers play in both Jewish and Islamic religions and traditions. The course will discuss the novels of Radwa Ashour, Orly Castel-Bloom, and Ronit Matalon, analyze Iman Mersal's poetic-theoretical reflections, and examine a documentary film by the acclaimed feminist Nadia Kamel.
Die Anmeldung zu Lehrveranstaltungen wird zur gegebenen Zeit über LSF erfolgen.
